Cedar Hill ISD

  • Longhorns Read to Lead

    What is it?

A new district-wide program to help students excel at reading.

    Why is it important?

Research shows that third-graders who read on grade level are more likely to go to college and earn higher wages.

    What's new?

Kindergarteners and first graders will receive a book each week to take home. Second graders will continue using books they have in class. Students in kindergarten through second grade will receive an activity to complete during Spring Break. This will be optional, but prizes will be given to those who participate.

    How can you help?

    • Encourage your child to read 20 minutes every day.
    • Talk to your child's teacher if they need more help.
    • Talk to them about their homework. Have them read the questions and answers to you.
    • Don't forget, reading doesn't always mean books. Kids can read age-appropriate magazines or websites.
